In the past, Sheung Wan was once the economic centre of Hong Kong, where many businesses started and witnessed the historical changes of the city. These old shops have either upheld traditions and continuously strived to thrive, or they have followed the pulse of the times, embracing transformation and innovation.
We will lead you into Sheung Wan’s Dried Seafood Street and together explore the stories of these old shops. We will delve into traditional printing and salted fish shops, listening to the owners personally share their industry stories, understanding their significant role in Hong Kong’s development as a commercial hub, and witnessing their interaction with the cultural and tourism industries. In addition, we will also introduce new projects within the community, discussing how urban redevelopment and the pandemic have impacted the development of these traditional business and the community. At the end there is a reflective session to discuss the topic.

Four decades ago, the Fairview Park housing development became the first and largest project of its kind to provide an affordable, low-rise alternative to the concrete jungle of predominantly high-rise apartment blocks in Hong Kong. In this development, 12.5 million square feet of undeveloped pond-lands were transformed into a self-contained community of more than 5,000 semi-detached houses with private gardens, schools, recreational facilities and a commercial center adjoining Mai Po Nature Reserve.

Guangzhou, 2 April 2024. The 29th Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE), themed “Light – The Power of Infinity”, will be held from 9 – 12 June 2024, at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou, in exhibition areas A and B. As a platform for connecting leading industry players, the fair is expecting to attract over 200,000 lighting professionals across 26 halls covering a total of 260,000 sqm, making it the biggest edition of GILE so far.

The exhibition is one of the “HKIA Roving Architecture Exhibitions” series, which was successfully held in Kuala Lumpur and Nanjing last year, and the Hong Kong stop to be held at Kai Tak AIRSIDE from 23rd February to 11th March. The exhibition is open to the public for free admission.

The SAKA Museum is one dedicated to Balinese Hinduist culture and traditional crafts in the Ayana Estate in Jimbaran, Bali. The entire interior seeks inspiration from local natural and cultural heritage in order to represent the powerful connection between culture and nature in Balinese Hinduism. From the tranquil night sky of Nyepi to water caves, volcano rocks to jasper and agate of Indonesia, Saka Museum defines each area through the translation of nature into architecture in formal and material expression. Different Balinese Hinduist motifs were also reflected in the architectural language through a contemporary lens while maintaining the essence of the traditional form.
