Ideas Don't Grow on Trees, But Paper Does

Context

The Mill is the former Paper Mill in Petrie, Queensland. Taking into consideration the areas rich history, the suite of street furniture was selected and customised to compliment the history of the sites former use and its surrounding landscapes. The Oval at the Mill has created an area for the community of Petrie and surrounding suburbs to enjoy as well as the students and staff of the University of Sunshine Coast which backs onto the space.

Considerations

The council requirements of the area aided the material and finish palette selection. Solid hardwood timber slats were used for furniture elements located under picnic shelters and for the furniture elements not located within these areas, powder coated aluminium slats and composite timber slats were used.

Opportunities

We as a design studio were grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the development of a project that helps celebrate the rich history that the Petrie Mill site embodies.
