The difference between speech level and background noise is called the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). A higher SNR means clearer speech, making conversations easier to understand.
When speech is just 10 dB louder than background noise, adults and older children can understand 90%+ of what’s said. However, younger children (ages 6-7) only catch 80%. Why? This is because younger children are still refining their language skills and vocabulary, making it harder for them to fill in the gaps when distracted by noise.
That’s why exceptional acoustics in classrooms for young learners is crucial. Our solutions help students and teachers thrive by creating better learning environments where they can absorb information and engage effectively.
