We’re pleased to share the first article in a three-part series by Erik van Zuilekom, published in the Dec/Jan edition of Hort Journal Australia.
Titled “Plant Community Paradigms: The Missing Links in Design”, this opening article challenges the long-standing native vs exotic debate and instead asks a deeper question: Are our landscapes functioning as integrated ecologies-or simply collections of individual plants?

Erik explores how plant failure is often less about species selection and more about ecological integration, highlighting the importance of designing plant relationships that build collective resilience across Australia’s diverse climates.
